Civic engagement can take many forms, from individual volunteerism to organizational involvement to electoral participation.
It can include efforts to directly address an issue, work with others in a community to solve a problem or interact with the
institutions of representative democracy. Civic Engagement encompasses a range of activities such as working in a soup kitchen,
serving on a neighborhood association, writing a letter to an elected official or voting.
Adding one’s voice
to community conversations. Advocacy on behalf of others. Participation in public life. Encouraging other people to participate
in public life. Joining in common work that promotes the well being of everyone.
Now, I am doing two civic engagement projects; Kitty Rescue and Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
Every Monday at 3, I travel to Jaffery and help out at a cat shelter. I clean out litter boxes, give out food and water,
clean their blankets and sleeping areas, and play with them. This lasts until 5pm.
Every Thursday around 12:45, I go to the middleschool in Jaffery and hang around with my "little sister". Her name is Sarah
Ball and she just recently turned 13 years old. We mostly just hang around, talk, draw, play outside, play games, walk outside
but we only have 45 minutes together, so I have to leave at 1:30.
